Forrest Elementary School helps students with staff and community donations

Forrest Elementary School held a Winter Warm-Up Drive-Thru for students on December 12, 2020. New Covenant Church and Connect Community provided and distributed 240 hamburgers and hotdogs and 75 bags of groceries for families while teachers and staff provided math and literacy activities to complete as a family together at home. Teachers also distributed books to the students.

Special thanks go to the following individuals and groups for their donations and time: Knights of Columbus Council #16226, Becky Kingston, David and Lana Brin, Mike and Bernadette Nugent, New Covenant Church, Connect Community, and Ferguson Enterprises.

During the month of December, Forrest’s community partners provided an enormous amount of assistance to their families in need. This included:

64 Angel Tree gifts for students
30 turkeys (and all the fixings) delivered to students’ homes
24 winter coats
20 knitted hats
2 flatbeds of nonperishable food items

“We are so grateful to our community partners for providing all of these things for our families at Forrest,” said Valerie Wolfe, family engagement specialist. “We are also very appreciative of what cannot be seen. We are honored that they took the time to buy the gifts, spread some cheer by assisting with our event, but most importantly, their giving hearts for wanting the best for our community!”

Hampton City Schools is so warmed to be a part of such a caring and giving community.
