Hampton Reads One book kickoff set for March 15

On March 15, 2021, Hampton City Schools kicks off its fifth divisionwide book club, Hampton Reads One Book. Every family with a child in Pre-kindergarten through fifth grade will receive the book, Lola Levine is Not Mean, compliments of our generous sponsor Old Point National Bank.

In addition to students hearing from celebrity readers, they will be engaged by answering trivia questions each week about Lola and her family. They will also explore the book through in-class activities and discussions. At home, families are asked to read the book together. There will be a drawing for prizes on March 29 through Facebook.

“Reading aloud at home is valuable,” said Superintendent Dr. Jeffery Smith in a letter to parents. “It is not only a fun, worthwhile family activity, it also better prepares our young people to be effective readers. With Hampton Reads One book, we have an opportunity to build a community of readers in our city including our students, parents, teachers, and administrative staff.”

Throughout the month, everyone will be talking about Lola Levine!
