Bethel High School HOSA video – How to Prevent Poor Mental Health

The Introduction to Health Occupations class at Bethel High School earned second place at the HOSA Future Health Professionals competitive event at the State Fair of Virginia. The HOSA - Future Health Professionals, formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America, competitive event project this year was to bring awareness to mental health and well-being. Tara Atwell, RN healthcare occupations teacher, is the Bethel HOSA sponsor.

One of the requirements in the competitive event is to publish the public service announcement to the community with the goal of educating the public within the scope of mental health awareness.

“I am proud of my students for earning 2nd place at HOSA day at the State Fair. I only wish they had been able to be there in person,” said Atwell.

Morgan Barnett, a 10th grader in the Governor's Health Science Academy said, “I had a good time collaborating with my classmates in making this project.”

“Even though we couldn't go to the State Fair in person, editing the video and educating my peers was fun,” shared Bryanna Jennings, a 10th grader in the Governor’s Health Science Academy.

“This was a great experience to learn more about HOSA and hopefully we can continue doing these projects,” said Malaya Golden, 10th grade student in the Governor’s Health Science Academy.
