Social Studies department collects snacks for veterans

The Hampton City Schools social studies department, under the direction of curriculum leader Ashley Ide, sponsored a collection of snacks for veterans. Nearly every school participated and two truckloads of snacks were collected.

Students at Phenix PreK-8 School helped to organize their collection (which was the largest school with donations of 15 boxes) and Rho Kappa (History Honor Society) students at Kecoughtan further organized and bagged the snacks.

A total of 150 pre-packed snack bags were assembled that included water, sandwich crackers, cereal bars, fruit snacks/dried fruit, tuna or other types of protein, and various snacks. The snack bags and remaining snacks (which was about a car load) were donated to the Hampton Veterans Hospital. They shared that the snacks will be used to support the homeless veteran population, those checked into the hospital, and for programs on campus, such as game night.

“We are so proud of our students and staff and thankful for everyone's generosity,” shared Ide.
