HCS art teacher Mona Cunnikin is featured in New York art show

Mona Cunnikin, art teacher at Bassette Elementary School, was selected to have two pieces of her art featured in the ABSTRACTIONS spring art show in Easthampton, NY. The show was sponsored by the Artists Alliance of East Hampton and held April 29 through May 4, 2022.

Cunnikin shared, “I said to myself, you have to step out and explore things that you haven't experienced. So, with that attitude, I decided to try my luck and I made the show. These are the first two abstract pieces I've created. It was fun and I met many great artists. My advice, step out of your comfort zone and do something different.”

The Artists Alliance of East Hampton was formed in 1984 as the Jimmy Ernst Artists Alliance by close friends of Jimmy Ernst, the internationally acclaimed abstract painter. It was formed in memory of Jimmy Ernst to carry on his vision of an artists’ community. Their mission is to strengthen and support the interests of the creative community living and working on the East End of Long Island. They accomplish this through networking opportunities for artists, artist lectures, and presentations. Their community outreach programs include high school scholarship programs and art workshops for middle school students.

The membership of the Artists Alliance is primarily professional working artists. They are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation supported through community and business contributions, membership dues, fundraisers, and State, County, and Local grants. The Alliance is based in East Hampton, New York on the South Fork of Long Island.
