HCS art students place in Hampton Woman’s Club art contest

The Hampton Woman’s Club held a reception for its 2023 Student Art Contest on Friday, April 28. Middle and high school students received recognitions for their works ranging from pencil drawings, paintings, digital media, fiber art, and sculptures.

Aliyah Boyce, a seventh grader from Kilgore Gifted Center, placed first and second in the middle school category for her portraits. Aliyah also received the Best in Show award.

Taylor Harris, a ninth grader from Phoebus High School, placed first in the high school category for her sculpture of a giraffe.

“Congratulations to the amazing and talented art students for their success in the 2023 Woman's Club art contest! I am particularly proud of the variety of artwork that was submitted, the attention to detail, the use of color and media, and the unique perspectives that were showcased in this year's show,” said Ai Choo Ashe, HCS teacher specialist for performing and visual arts. “A huge thank you to the teachers for their guidance, support, and expertise in guiding the students toward this accomplishment.”

The Hampton Woman’s Club art contest is held annually to encourage and celebrate our young student artists in Hampton.

Note: in the middle school winners image, art teacher Erin Thomas received the award for her student who was not in attendance.
