Burbank Elementary School Crochet Club donates baby beanies

In October 2022, the Burbank Elementary School Crochet Club set a goal to donate 100 crocheted baby beanies to Sentara CarePlex's Family Maternity Center. The good news is that they have exceeded their goal.

The club partnered with a labor and delivery nurse and Burbank parent, Shatara Hicks. The Crochet Club will be delivering their freshly laundered baby beanies for newborns, preemies, and micro preemies on Saturday, May 20 at Sentara CarePlex's Family Maternity Center at 10 a.m. They expect to donate close to 200 baby beanies.

The club consists of students in grades three through five. According to Dr. LaTonya Harris, Burbank assistant principal, students who participate in the Crochet Club have shown improvement in the following areas: reading skills & vocabulary, attendance, social skills, and behavior.

“Volunteers from our school and community have stepped in to help us reach our goal,” said Harris. “We are truly grateful for their support. Crochet Club is a fun extracurricular activity with many benefits!”
