Back-to-School Information and Updates

We look forward to welcoming our students to the 2022-2023 school year on Monday, August 29! As we begin another successful school year, please know that Hampton City Schools remains committed to the established culture of safety, health, and wellness.

Safety and Security Measures

A safe learning environment is the number one priority of our school division, and Hampton City Schools has systems in place to address safety in each of our schools. Click here to view a list of specific safety measures utilized by HCS as well as information on Care Solace. One safety measure that is new this year to our middle schools, PreK-8 schools, and Kilgore Gifted Center is the walk-through weapons detection system. These units were used in our high schools last year, and we have expanded this year to the remainder of our secondary schools to use daily in their buildings. Additionally, we plan to utilize the weapons detection system at the elementary level in the near future.

Health and Wellness

We continue to put a focus on health and wellness. As such, it takes everyone committing to mitigation practices, and it is vital that no staff member or student come to work or school sick. Parents and guardians are required to complete the Student Health Questionnaire DAILY BEFORE their child comes to school. This questionnaire is self administered. It does not need to be printed and sent into the school. If “yes” is a response to any of the questions, the student is required to remain home and the parent/guardian needs to contact the attendance clerk or the school nurse. The school nurse will give guidance for medical issues.

Visit our Instruction and Health Mitigation Plan website. This is a one-stop shop for families as they prepare for the first day of school. You will find the Student Health Questionnaire, as well as a complete list of health mitigation strategies, quarantine/isolation guidelines, and more.

Communication will continue when positive COVID-19 cases are identified. While we are not maintaining a divisionwide COVID dashboard, schools will continue to notify parents/guardians via a ParentSquare post when an individual in their child’s classroom tests positive for COVID so they can monitor their child for symptoms and make appropriate decisions. Close contacts will not be identified unless there is a case of school transmission. Individual phone calls will be limited to specific circumstances.

Bus Routes

Bus routes are now live and available on the HCS homepage by clicking on the Bus Stops & Zones link.

School Meals

All HCS students will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost at all schools. Snacks and a la carte items will be available for purchase using a student's meal account, which can be funded through MyPaymentsPlus by visiting www.mypaymentsplus.com or downloading the app. No cash, checks, money orders, or credit card payments will be taken for snack or a la carte purchases at the schools or Food & Nutrition Services office.

Does your child have a food allergy? If so, your child is required to submit a 2022-2023 medical statement form. This includes students who are new to Hampton City Schools as well as returning students. Click here to download the form that must be completed by your child’s doctor each year in order to ensure meal substitutions are made for your child.

Additional Information

Please utilize our Student Rights & Responsibilities Handbook. This handbook contains important information for students and families such as the school calendar, academic information, attendance information, code of student conduct, and more. Additionally, our HCS website is an excellent resource for information.

Thank you for your continued support of Hampton City Schools. We look forward to a successful school start and an amazing school year!
