Jones Magnet Middle School wins boys and girls volleyball championships

Congratulations to both the men and ladies volleyball teams from Jones Magnet Middle School. Both teams won their respective championship for the 2022-2023 school year.

Darlene Edwards, the coach for both teams said, “This season was an amazing year for both groups.”

The girls team started strong and ended the season with two tough losses against Kilgore Gifted Center and Eaton Fundamental Middle School. They bounced back during the tournament and worked hard as a team. Edwards said each student athlete played an intricate part in each game while developing basic skills and the understanding of what teamwork means.

“The Jaguar ladies fought hard in the championship game against Phenix PreK-8 School winning 26-24 and 25-20,” shared Edwards.

Edwards said that the Jaguar men were more reluctant with learning a new sport. However, they came together quickly and realized how much fun it was to play the sport. Once they realized there are so many things they can do to win a point, such as block at the net or spike, they were eager to learn how. The boys were ready to play each game and wanted to do well. Their hard work paid off as they had an undefeated season, losing only one set all season.

“The Jaguar men dug deep to come together on the court during the championship game against Kilgore winning 25-18 and 25-19,” said Edwards. “I am honored to be a part of the program at Jones with an amazing group of student athletes.”

Kudos to both teams on their remarkable season!
