KHS students place in FBLA competition


Ten members of Kecoughtan High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter attended the 2023 Spring Colonial Regional Leadership Conference on March 4, 2023, at Southampton High School. The conference included an opening session, voting for regional officers, a guest speaker, and the awards ceremony for the competitive events. The following received awards in their event:

 

Left – Jai Wynn, 12th grade – Human Resource Management, second place

Chapter president

Enrolled in Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design (AEID)

Jai plans to attend college and major in business.


Right – Christiana Knowlin, 12th grade – Sports & Entertainment Management, second place

Enrolled in Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design (AEID)

Christiana plans to attend college and major in nursing.

Megan Kearney, 11th grade – UX Design, first place

Chapter vice president

Enrolled in Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design (AEID)


Megan plans to attend a college in Florida and major in marketing.

Jaron Picquet, 12th grade – Public Speaking, second place

Chapter executive board member

Enrolled in Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design (AEID)


Jaron plans to attend college. He will be the first generation in his family to go to college. His major is undecided.

Hannah Truitt, 11th grade – Impromptu Speaking, first place

Chapter secretary

Enrolled in Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design (AEID)


Hannah plans to attend trade school and pursue a career in occupational therapy or pharmacy.

Marquist Harris, 11th grade – Political Science, third place

Enrolled in Academy of Architecture, Environment and Engineering (AAEE)


Marquist plans to attend college and major in history or government.

Peyton Crum, 12th grade – Entrepeneurship, second place

Enrolled in Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design (AEID)


Peyton plans to attend Bowling Green State University and major in resort and attraction management.

Alexis Denham, 12th grade – Graphic Design, second place

Chapter reporter/historian

Enrolled in Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design (AEID)


Alexis has been accepted to Chowan University on a softball scholarship and plans to major in graphic design.

A’layah Woodberry. 10th grade – Introduction to Financial Math, first place

Enrolled in Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design (AEID)


A’layah plans to attend college and major in finance/budget analysis.

 

“I completely agree with Benjamin Franklin’s quote, ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail’. I am super proud of this group of young people because they stayed committed to the process and they studied and prepared for their events. I can’t wait to see what they do at the state leadership conference at the end of the month,” shared FBLA advisor Mona Dozier.
