HCS counselor Yolanda Vaughan is named Care Solace Care Hero of the Month

Congratulations to Yolanda Vaughan, school counselor at Smith Elementary School. She was named the Care Hero of the Month by Care Solace.

Yolanda Vaughan is an advocate for mental health both in the classroom and in her community. Students and staff adore her compassionate heart and interpersonal skills. They know she is always there to support them when issues arise. “There is so much that has happened in the world these past few years, and everyone needs somebody. I'm glad I can be that somebody for others.” Yolanda's excellent work positively impacts her community, and we are honored to highlight her as our Care Hero. 

“Unmet mental health needs can be a significant obstacle to student academic success. It is so important that we do everything we can to meet the mental health needs of our students and their families,” shared Carla Mahn, Hampton City Schools director of student development & counseling. “Mrs. Vaughan is actively recognizing and responding to the need for mental health services and promoting social-emotional wellness and development for her students. I am so happy to have her as a part of our school counseling team and as an example of what school counselors do for students and families every day. This is a recognition that is well deserved.”
