David Anderson of Kecoughtan High School wins third state championship in shot put

David Anderson, a senior at Kecoughtan High School, won the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 5 Indoor Track State Championship in the Shot Put on February 24, 2023. During the competition he broke the current state record twice with a final winning distance of 59 feet 2 inches, earning him a spot in the Adidas Indoor National Championships.  This is the third state championship he has won in this area since February 2022.

Kecoughtan throws coach, Brittany Day, characterizes David as “an incredible athlete that is always looking to help his teammates become great as well. I have really enjoyed coaching him and I can't wait to see what he will achieve next. David is not only a standout in the ring but he also excels in the classroom. This season he has taken each challenge and learned how to compete smarter. He is the definition of a Kecoughtan Warrior.”

Anderson has accepted a full athletic scholarship to play football at Duke University starting in the fall.

Congratulations and good luck in your future endeavors!
