HCS holds Second Annual District Science Fair

Hampton City Schools held its Second Annual Science Fair. Fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from Eaton Fundamental Middle School, Syms Middle School, Mary Peake Elementary School, and Ann H. Kilgore Gifted Center chose to participate. The event was held at the Virginia Air & Space Science Center (VASSC) on March 22, 2023, for students who placed first, second, third, or received an honorable mention at their school’s science fair.


Upon the decision of the judges – Keri Rouse, VA Tech Seaford Agricultural Research and Extension Center; Charles English, director of Virginia Air & Space Science Center; Andrea Bolton, business communication intern, NASA Langley Research Center; Dr. Bill Burrell, president, Tuskegee Airmen Hampton Chapter; Kristen Duprey, STEM curriculum specialist, VASSC; Akiyah Lindsey, Hampton High School student; Darius McCallum, Kecoughtan High School student; Joyce Corriere, Virginia Space Grant Consortium; and Gretchen Watson, Hampton Chapter of The Links, Inc. – first, second, third place, and honorable mention awards were given in the categories of Physical Science, Earth Science, and Life Science.

2nd: Makayla Ward, Viviana Moreno, Madison Jack – Syms Middle School

3rd: Callie Brock, Logan Reaves, Adalelyn Forbes – Syms Middle School
