Megan Wynne of Syms Middle School earns doctorate

Congratulations to Megan Wynne, seventh grade history teacher at Syms Middle school, who earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from Florida State University. Dr. Wynne’s dissertation was titled, Through the Bars and Behind a Desk: the Impact of Household Member Incarceration on Students at School. 


Wynne, an alumna of Kecoughtan High School began her career at Huntington Middle School in Newport News teaching history before moving to Syms Middle School. She has been working in the history and social studies department at Syms for seven years. She is also one of the 21st Century Community Learning Center site coordinators at Syms as well as one of the 21st Century senior coordinators for the city’s numerous 21st Century sites.


Wynne holds a BA in history with a minor in political science and a MA in secondary education from Christopher Newport University.


“Dr. Wynne is an outstanding seventh grade history teacher at Syms Middle School. Not only is she the 21st Century coordinator, she is also in charge of the school’s social media. In addition, she is the recipient of the Cox Education Hero for 2022,” shared Dr. Patrina Jenkins, Syms principal. “The Spartans are proud to have Dr. Wynne as a member of the Spartan family.”
