KHS academic team makes it to the quarterfinal of Battle of the Brains

The Kecoughtan High School academic team has had an eventful, exciting, and successful year. The team defeated Dinwiddie High School and Prince George High School to reach the quarterfinal round of the Battle of the Brains competition that airs on local news station WTKR. Unfortunately, their journey ended at quarterfinals with Maggie walker’s Governor School advancing.

The Battle of the Brains team includes: Hannah Bunting (senior), Allison Cox (senior), Jenna Sadowski (senior), and Chandler Lilley (junior).

Hannah Bunting, who was chosen from Kecoughtan to be a part of the special “all stars” episode that will air on WTKR on June 10, was also spotlighted in a national story, The Legacy of Student Quiz Shows, featured on CBS. The CBS story can be viewed here

“I am incredibly proud of all the hard work that our Scholastic Bowl students put in this year. It is the strongest team that we have had in quite some time,” shared KHS teacher and academic team coach Ron Lieberum. “They won the Peninsula District in VHSL competition and reached the quarterfinal of Battle of the Brains when none of them had experience in a televised competition before. I will be sad to see our seniors go, but I know that they are destined for great things and the underclassmen are ready to step up and lead the team next year.”

Congratulations to the entire team on their successful season.
