HCS music education program receives national recognition for 11th year

Hampton City Schools has once again received the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation marking the 11th year that the division has been recognized (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024). This honor reflects the ongoing commitment of teachers, administrators, parents, students, and the broader community to prioritize music education as an integral part of a comprehensive learning experience for children.

In its 25th year, the 2024 Best Communities for Music Education program has recognized 975 school districts and 122 schools.

To earn this designation, Hampton City Schools underwent a rigorous evaluation process, providing detailed information on various aspects including funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instructional time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music initiatives. Responses were thoroughly assessed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas, ensuring credibility and accuracy.

Kelly Dee, visual and performing arts curriculum leader, emphasized the significance of this achievement, attributing it to the collective efforts of students, families, music educators, administrators, and the community. Dee highlighted the power of music, stating that studying and performing music doesn't just have the ability to transform an education; it also can transform a life.
