Ocoya Ottley, a seventh grader at Tarrant Middle School, gives opening at the March 1 School Board meeting

 

Ocoya Ottley, a seventh grade student at Tarrant Middle School, was selected to give the opening at the March 1, 2023, School Board meeting. She shared Amanda Gorman’s poem, New Day’s Lyric.

Ocoya’s hobbies include cooking, making jewelry, and painting. She is one of seven children.

Ocoya’s mother, sisters and niece, as well as the Tarrant administrative team Aisha Rucker, assistant principal; Tandie Taliaferro, assistant principal; Kimberly Riggs-Poole, assistant principal; and Dwayne Lucas, principal, joined her at the meeting. Teachers Danielle Strother and Patrick McRae were also in attendance.
