Forrest Elementary School is recognized at the Canstructure event

Forrest Elementary School recently participated in Youth Volunteer Corps Hampton Roads’ Canstructure event and for the second consecutive year won the category of "Most Canned Goods" collected with a total of 2,753 cans. The school completed against 17 elementary, middle and high schools to claim that title.

Forrest conducted a canned food drive the whole month of February to collect the cans. They had 12 students on their Canstructure team that helped create a Tic-Tac -oe board for their presentation.

The Forrest Canstructure team was led by their family engagement specialist Derrick Alston.

“Those students worked hard to create the structure, and they feel ecstatic with the results of the event. It is an honor for Forrest to participate and win this event as we encourage our students to give back to their communities when they can,” said Alston.
